Too bad the preface to Brian Rice's first and last post effectively scolds list
members for engaging in discussion of "things of which they know
little, form opinions with very little reflection". I find his tone insulting and
discouraging. Also, we shouldn't assume that posts submitted to the
list reflect list members opinions as a whole. The most vocal may hold a minority
opinion, or vice versa, there's no way of knowing what nearly 850
list members do with info circulated here.

Perhaps Brian should have joined the fray of discussion two weeks ago to enlighten us
all. Instead he waits until after the veto override to point out
how foolish we all are for forming opinions and reprimands our public discourse on the
topic. I should hope that more people working in public service
would be thrilled to have a captive audience of concerned citizens. Unfortunately it
seems that some would prefer we weren't paying attention or
forming opinions at all. Fortunately, we're just a tiny handful of the uninformed
masses.
