Brian accepted responsibility and resigned when he was caught red handed. Biernat is trying to get off on a technicality. I also think Jones' example of the white college kid who was traveling around planting pipe bombs, and his treatment in the press was also a reasonable example. Where I have difficulty is the comparison (indirectly) of the treatment of Barbara Schneider shooting and the killings of Martha Donald and Melissa Schmidt. I'm not sure I buy that the feelings about Donald would be different if she was White and was responsible for the death of a police officer. On the MPD list some are saying that the new procedures for mentally ill were responsible for Schmidt's death. I hope that isn't the lesson learned here.
