Well I for one will miss you, Paul. I've always enjoyed your posts --
though I think the post going after Ms. Ero Phillips personally went too
far -- as you acknowledged in your apology.

I think Rice had two posts to the list, then David inadvertently forwarded
a third -- which was private email. And David sheepishly appologized to
the list for that faux pas.

Off list posts can be the worst - people don't want to be out in public
with their venom.

When I get hatemail, I always get a laugh out of it. That's generally the
way I react to heated rhetoric on list -- with laughter.

The whole Roman nose stuff was a bit wierd, but I think Syl Jones had a
point about the different way Joe Biernat and Brian Herron have been
treated. Brian accepted responsibility and resigned when he was caught red
handed. Biernat is trying to get off on a technicality.

I also think Jones' example of the white college kid who was traveling
around planting pipe bombs, and his treatment in the press was also a
reasonable example.

Where I have difficulty is the comparison (indirectly) of the treatment of
Barbara Schneider shooting and the killings of Martha Donald and Melissa
Schmidt. I'm not sure I buy that the feelings about Donald would be
different if she was White and was responsible for the death of a police
officer.

On the MPD list some are saying that the new procedures for mentally ill
were responsible for Schmidt's death. I hope that isn't the lesson learned
here.
