Fishing is great in Minneapolis. The best for northern pike and
small mouth bass is the Mississippi River. There is great small
mouth bass fishing even in the middle of downtown. Nicolett
Island and north of Hennepin Avenue are good places. For great
northern pike, small mouth, walleye and sauger, and silver bass
from hidden falls south to the end of Fort Snelling can not be beaten.
For eatable walleye and an occasional trophy muskee try Lake Harriet,
(you need a canoe to get to the good fishing).

I once stopped and talked to some young girls on a river bank in
northern Minnesota and asked where the good fishing was. One
answered that her father, a nut about fishing, had a special place
where he caught all kinds of big Northern Pike. After having driven
a couple of hours to get there I was eager to find out where,
so I asked the name of the lake. She answered that the name of the
lake was Cedar Lake. Looking at the map I could not find the lake
so I asked where the lake was. She answered that her father drove
a couple of hours south to a lake by or in Minneapolis. Yes folks,
while I was driving two hours north there was great fishing ten minutes
away and still in the City.

With all that elite fishing out of the way I will tell you where the
truly great fishing experience awaits. You need a boat, but if you
would like the opportunity to sometimes have more than one ten pound
fish on at a time, and to possible catch twenty of these in a couple
of hours go to the bottom of the Ford Dam. Yes, a sunny afternoon
on the Mississippi, trophy carp at the ford dam, while sipping a cold
Pigseye, it just doesn't get any better. The beauty is you do not even
have to clean fish. With the money you save by not driving "Up North"
you can stop on the way home and pick up some tilapia or orange ruffi
filets. Yes folks, it just doesn't get better for a fishing experience. I
have
converted several, (dare I say the word), "non-fisherman", to avid devotees.

(I know using the term "non-fisherman" is such an inflammatory insult to
some, but the term is used generically and not aimed at a particular person.
In the outstate area this might get me warned and possibly expelled
from the "List" for "inflammatory insulting language", but here in the City
those so described do not even seem to mind. I apologize if such an insult
has
occurred for anyone.)

So stop reading this, grab your rod, get on your bike,
AND GO FISHING.
(The fall northern are on)
