I always enjoy Mr. Jones' writing. Not only is it right on the money but
it is also highly creative.

I appreciate it that much more for the fact that it produces reactions
like the ones we have seen on this list and in the Letters to the Editor
after a piece by him is printed.

BTW - suggesting that the Strib find a more "moderate" writer to
represent the black community is racist.

First, the idea that Mr. Jones "represents" the black community is just
another attempt to put all people of one group, in this case black
people, in a lump. It also absurdly suggests that there is only space to
have one writer "representing" a group. Why not more? In fact, I am sure
that there are other black writers appearing in the Strib. Its just that
Mr. Jones is a regular feature and he upsets you.

Secondly, the suggestion of a more "moderate" writer also skews
dangerously close to the search to, to be brutally blunt, a search for a
"good n****r".

Obviously I am assuming Mr. Mark Anderson is white. If I am incorrect I
would then suggest that he write something for the Strib himself to
represent his viewpoint as a black man.

Mr. Jones produces what is called "cognitive dissonance" (learned that
in a political science class, I'm always happy when I get some use out
of that degree). And cognitive dissonance is what provokes change.
Comfortable people don't change. You do not need to agree with the
writer to recognize that they are talking about something that needs to
be thought about and changed.
