There has been alot of great discussion about the School Board candidates
over the last few days. I want to remind people about an upcoming
opportunity to meet the the candidates who have been the object of our
discussion. Southwest Citizens for Civic Engagement, in partnership with
Southwest Journal and Southwest Community Education, will be holding a
unique (at least in modern times) Pre-Primary-Night-Party to help facilitate
informal conversation between candidates and neighbors at a pre-election
party harkening back to days gone by. The event, which is part of the
Getting to the Bottom of the Ballot effort (as seen in centerfold of the Aug
19 edition of the SW Journal), will be held on:

Monday, September 9th from 7-9pm
Lake Harriet Community School Upper Campus (50th & Washburn Ave S)
Featuring: Rootbeer floats, popcorn, and candidates ready to talk to
neighbors - no debates or speeches allowed!

Although the event focuses on SW Minneapolis, anyone can attend.

To date, the following School Board candidates have confirmed their
attendance: LaShella Sims, Stephanie Gaynor, Audrey Johnson, Michael
Atherton, Lucky Rosenbloom, Joseph Erickson, Judy Farmer, & Colleen
Moriarty. (If any of the candidates who have not confirmed their attendance
see this and still want to come, its not too late!) You'll recognize the
candidates at the event by the election-style hats they will be wearing.

Although I know three of the School Board candidates I will be voting for, I
am not sure who else I will be supporting. I am looking forward to the
opportunity to meet the candidates at this upcoming party to help me make my
picks.
