Michael Atherton was rightly offended by the StarTribune as he highlights
below:

What is surprising is the caustic nature of their dismissal. While it is
technically accurate to describe me as a "52-year-old graduate student," the
phrase
seems to reflect a certain amount of implicit age discrimination, as if
continuing
your education past the age 24 is somehow dysfunctional. The citation of this
single
fact belies my other qualifications, namely more than ten years of teaching
experience; a bachelor's degree in Psychology, a master's degree in Computer
Science,
and the fact that I will finish a Ph.D. in Education this school year; the
fact that
I do neuroscience research related to education; that I am an author
publishing papers
in a novel area of education; and that I am a session chair for the American
Educational
Research Association's national conference. And least I forget, I do full
daycare on Tuesday
and Thursday for our two children. Yes, it is true that I indeed am a
52-year-old graduate
student, but it is something that I hope would engender respect, not sarcasm.

Keith Says; The StarTribune's political endorsements appear to have little to
do with civic service. These endorsements have more to do with partisan
politics. Much to the detriment of public education for our children, the
Strib editors will take the tiniest positive detail of Mr. Atherton's life
and use it to make him seem, somehow, immature. How would a typical reader
make a reasonable judgment of Mr. Atherton's qualifications when he is made
to appear a middle aged career student with a grudge? Keith Reitman NearNorth
