Rick Roche's claims that Rep. Scott Dibble sought to
increase stadium subsidies are patently false. In
fact, his amendment would have the opposite effect of
Roche's claims. Roche should be ashamed of himself for
introducing last minute smear tactics into this race,
after barely campaigning all summer himself.

The fact is that Scott offered an amendment to the
stadium bill that would require all infrastructure
costs borne by a local unit of government (new
streets, lights, utilities, etc.) to also be counted
as stadium expense -- rather than be hidden. His
amendment would also have that amount capped (so costs
overruns, whether for the actual stadium or supporting
infrastructure would have to be paid by the team or
private sources).

It is also unfortunate that Roche conveniently fails
to point out that Scott voted against the stadium bill
both times it came up.

We could have anticipated this from him, in light of
his strange attempt earlier to overturn Scott's DFL
endorsement. His concern about DFL protocol is
suspect, considering he did not seek endorsement
himself. It was a fairly simple matter to demonstrate
that Progressive Minnesota has not been a political
party for quite some time, thus no violation of DFL
party rules against cross endorsement had occurred.
However, even after Roche was in possession of the
facts, he continued to press the matter -- calling a
press conference to perpetuate his claim.

This last minute onslaught of mail and network TV
station commercials appears to be self-funded. Roche
is not abiding by voluntary spending limits and has
infused roughly $32,000 of his own into this campaign
-- that we're aware of. This style of attack politics,
commonly found in other states, will not fly in
District 60.

The Dibble campaign is doing what it can to set the
record straigh - but is keeping its focus on
continuing its positive, grassroots, issue-based
campaign that has been its hallmark. We have literally
hundreds of volunteers hitting the doors. In his
effort to personally hear from neighbors about their
views on transportation, education, housing, the
environment and civil rights, etc., Scott has already
personally doorknocked over 8,000 doors this summer.

If anyone has any questions about any issues raised in
this campaign, please feel free to call or write.
