Unless you were on the route you'd have hardly noticed, but there was another successful Critical Mass ride yesterday. Well over 100 (perhaps 200, it's hard to judge without stopping to count) human powered vehcicles meandered through the streets of Minneapolis w/o any police escort. It's interesting to note that I didn't see anyone wander into oncoming traffic.
I left the ride a little early, but it was mostly peaceful. I did see one incident in which a car decided to keep going through the mass after someone had nicely - "I'm sorry sir, but you'll have to wait. Someone could get hurt" - asked him not to. He must've taken driving lessons from Randy Moss. Thankfully, no one was injured, but it did look a little scary.
Now, an invitiation:Celebrate the 10th Anniversary of Critical Mass!
Arise! Books presents Cris Carlsson - author and co-founder of Critical Mass. Tuesday, October 8th. 6:30 PM at Arise - 2441 Lyndale Ave So. Cris wil be reading from his new book.
In 1992 in San Francisco Cris Carlsson suggested at a San Francisco Bike coalition meeting that since conditions downtown were so bad for cyclists that they once a month they "meet downtown" and "make our presence felt". This has evolved into monthly Critical Mass rides all over the globe.
Also that evening Arise! will be showing Ted White's movie "We are Traffic!" - a documentary on Critical Mass.
