Kieth, I'm with you on this one.

>Dear Mike Opat- I read thru your posting on The List Forum this morning. I
>also took the opportunity to review the Northwest Corridor Website
>(address-from your post).

>As a member of the West Broadway Area Coalition in North Mpls. I have some

Amen- why must a nice suburban thoroughfare become a
deteriorating trail when it enters out fair(?) city? The first
pothole tells you that this is a neighborhood that has been pretty
much abandoned by all levels of government.

>West Broadway Av. in North Mpls. is, in our opinion, "The Avenue with the
>most Potential" in Hennepin County. Part of the reason for the massive
>potential is the current dismal conditions extant there. This huge negative
>disparity with all reasonable measures of normality, are in part do to the

Amen! I see a lot of my neighbors shopping out in Robbinsdale
and the farther suburbs. I also see a lot of folks from the inner
northwestern suburbs commuting to and from work on Broadway. But do
they stop and shop on the way? No way! Who wants to get caught in a
shootout when gassing the car or picking up some grub? And why waste
our time at our joke of a Target when Fleet Farm and Walmart have
what we need a few miles up Broadway. They even have a decent Target
out in Crystal.

>Yes, there are many other contentious issues to developing a normal,
>functioning, and viable mainstreet serving our North Mpls. residential
>neighborhoods; while allowing West Broadway to be a Major County Commuter
>Artery between DT and the outer edge of the County. I will not start to list
>them for you at this time.

Actually the issues are pretty simple- first off, at least
repave the thing. Take advantage of the many vacant lots to provide
off street parking for businesses. Design the street for transit. And
make it a "safe space" with minimal cover for criminals.

>Being a partner in the successful reconnection/redirection and integration of
>"Our Avenue with the Most Potential", with the rest of Hwy. 81 vitality and
>renewal, means earning the esteem of all residents and stakeholders in this,
>Our County.

        Again, amen!

>Please join your efforts with ours, and let us join with yours. The disparity
>and contrast is obvious between in-town/suburban. The successes will be
>crystal clear, so will missed opportunities. Let's connect; You, our Board,
>and through you, other Hwy. 81 stakeholders. I regret I didn't realize and
>understand the need for this message until now. Your posting on The List
>Forum helped my realization, Thanx.

I am amazed at some of the money that has been put into the
suburban county roads while ignoring ours. It's time to send that
money our way for a change. Perhaps we need to shame the
commissioners into action- maybe putting up some official looking
"minimum maintence road- enter at your own risk" signs up on Broadway
at the city limits and freeway exits?

        peace,
Dyna Sluyter, who has to negotiate Broadway 10 times a week
