Subject: J'Lo for Sheriff - PLEASE DISTRIBUTE

There's a new candidate for Sheriff in town, and he wants to
make a few changes. Meet Juan Lopez! (You can call him J'Lo).

Please join us to hear J'Lo's ideas for change in the Hennepin
County Sheriff's Office.

Hosted by:
Peter McLaughlin, Natalie Johnson Lee, Tammy Wong, Robert
Lilligren, Gail Dorfman, Scott Dibble, Paul Zerby, Frank
Hornstein, Mike Erlandson

Date & Time:
Thursday, October 10th, 2002 6-8 pm
Rainbow Chinese Restaurant
2739 Nicollet Av. S. Minneapolis – upstairs

This is a fundraiser, albeit humble. There is no minimum, or
even suggested donation. Mainly, we want you to come and meet
this guy who has been running an old fashioned grass roots
campaign for change and justice in the office of
Hennepin County Sheriff. Of course there'll be something good
to eat and drink.

Issues:

A million bucks a bed?
The current Sheriff just spent $108 million on a new jail that
added only 96
beds. Now they're setting up cots in the gym! J'Lo will be more
prudent with
taxpayer money.

8% women & people of color?
The Sheriff proudly reports an increase from 4% to 8% women and
minorities
At the Sheriff's office. Whoa! Hennepin County is over half
female and 20%
people of color. J'Lo knows minorities aren't just the bad
guys - he aims to
diversify the Sheriff's workforce.

More concealed weapons?
The Sheriff has been the weak link in law enforcement
opposition to conceal
and carry legislation. Does that mean other Sheriffs, Police
Chiefs and Peace Officers Associations are all wrong? J'Lo
doesn't think so. He'll work hard To keep guns off the street.
