Naming me here is demagogic. I highly resent this use of my name as a child
killer, in a gratuitous fashion. I happen to be highly involved in efforts to
reduce all pollution through my efforts and support of the Earth Protector
Organization which is headquartered in North Mpls. in space I provide.
Kieth, i apologize to you and the list for naming you. I think I did so because I was responding to you directly, and because I was responding to the implication in the subject line of your post that fresh air has adversely affected me. I have too little time to compose responses, mixed passion and anger, and sent the post before editing. I sincerely apologize.
I recognize that not everyone can respond to the global and local environmental and economic crisis in the same ways at the same time. I do believe that many of us can and must reflect carefully about our personal decisions, and that many of these decisions are made according to larger cultural conventions which place our comfort and convenience far above very real common concerns of public health, environmental degradation, and social and economic justice. I recognize that not everyone can or should do exactly as I do, and yet I long to discover what others are doing individually, and what we can do collectively, to bring about change.
I am very distraught over what seems to me to be complacency regarding these matters in Minneapolis -- not only on the part of most of our elected officials, but even more on the part of many of my fellow citizens.
We votes we cast with our daily lifestyle choices and with our dollars may count even more than those we cast in polling booths on election day. I suppose I see these daily choices we make as being much more crucial to re-shaping our future than many folks do. I'll have to think about that.
I am trying to redesign my life to be sustainable in an urban context. I do often despair. Again, I apologize for naming you in the way I did. I apologize to the list for my too-hastily-sent post.
