I have supported the idea of community ownership for a long time. Below
is a link to the bill introduced by me in the House and Senator Ellen
Anderson in the Senate. The bills passed through committees in both
Houses and were on the floor before adjournment. Obviously the folks
who want a stadium don't want to let this more sensible idea get in
the
way. The bill as proposed neither required nor prohibited any public
entity from being a part owner. There is very good historical
evidance
to show that the value increase of professional sports teams has
always
exceeded the S&P 500 and in this current market climate it would be
so
far ahead as a good investment that the comparison would be
laughable.
When I get to my files on this subject (in a few days) I can expand
on
the concept of both the philosophy and the numbers. I'm fairly sure I
posted on this earlier in the year.
