I do not know how many people they employ, but way back the mid 1970's I
know they were the largest mailer in Minneapolis as reported by the then
postmaster. This suggests that their enterprises have also been a large
employer for quite some time. One does not need to share their faith or
beliefs to recognize that this organization has been a significant part of
the Minneapolis economy. While the city may well be able to do just fine
without them, they will be missed as would any other major employer. Their
presence in the city shows that the city can serve many different people of
many different beliefs and lifestyles. The mix we celebrate should leave
room for all.

I suspect they were here in the first place because of our well established
printing and publishing industry. This economic cluster has perhaps seen
better days. Many of our most famous printers have been forced out of
Minneapolis proper over the past decades. One cost of our penchant for
parks, offices, hysterical preservation and retail over attention to keeping
and growing our industrial clusters.
