CM: This post is a good case study why your average landlords will not rent to people who sometimes need housing the most. Ms Mann proves that landlord baiting and hating is thriving.
> I also live across from a party house (with drugs too probably) and I live in > Kingfield, an area I thought was outside the crime containment zone. It has > taken years of 911 calls and threats against the landlord to finally shut > these people up (and who knows when they'll start up again?). CM: Ms Mann is threatening landlords. Look two sentences above. I am not being mellow-dramatic. The city's policy of crucifying the landlord for the felonious behaviour of other cititzens was on the wane. But a new generation of witch hunters are coming into their own. Good hunting Ms. Mann. > > I have a few tips for Dyna but she'll have to be prepared to make this a > second job for a while and even then can't be sure of the results. First, is > there a landlord? CM: I ( who thouroughly screens for crim history) got a call from a loss prevention specialist at a grocery store. Apparently one of his employees was in hot foot pursuit of a shoplifter. The perp ran out the door and ran to my apt building. The LPS wanted to know how I run my building, was ready to offer suggestions. Shoplifting can now be blamed on landlords. I was at a meeting where a legislator who chairs a full committee attributed a reduction of kid violence in the school on the improved management of an apartment complex. Therefore you could blame an increase of school violence on the management of an apartment complex. In the old days when a crime was committed, shallow minded people would just keep looking around until they found a minority to blame it on. Well picking on Jews, blacks and others went out of vogue. Go after the landlords, it's the 21st century. First > write a letter to the landlord citing all of the things he's doing wrong > under the law (you can get his or her name and address from the County > Recorder, Floor 6A of the Government Center). Then go to the housing > inspectors office; it's in the building next to the Federal Courthouse and > kitty corner from City Hall. They don't like to work anymore than the police > do so be prepared. CM: She's on to something here. > > Also, are there any children? You can call Child Protection although I pretty > much agree with Jim they probably won't do anything for a low income black > child. I almost tried this route when I saw the baby (now about 5 years old) > being tossed out of a car during a drunken brawl at 3 in the morning. You can > also investigate the tenants if you can get their names - check them out in > Hennepin County computers. They have databases for criminal, civil and > housing court. CM: Crim activity should always be reported. But why start investigating your neighbors? Ross Perot aint got nothin on you kid. Wouldn't you just love to have a neighbor like that. I hope she doesn't mind John Lennon, Bob Dylan, Nirvana, Cole Porter, Sinatra, Van Morrison and Beethoven played to loud. She might run checks on you if you have fashion color clash. One thing I did was collect license plate numbers - there was > a steady stream of traffic day and night. I too was struck by all the nice > cars and SUVs. I drive a jalopy and work 40+ hours a week. CM: Now were getting into the part of the motivation. Just hate people who make more money then you. Compare to what you have, if you have less, call the cops. It really is a simple way to ease your envy/hatred. > > All in all, I think threatening the landlord is the way to go. They actually > have something to loose. Plus, if you only get rid of the tenants, they'll > just rent to someone else. I was on the verge of doing this and had actually > made my first visit to the Inspectors' office when suddenly the people moved > out. CM: I wonder if Ms Mann has filed her preference for what kinds of tenants she wishes to have with the civil rights office. Did she notify her landlord neighbor of her tenant neighbor demands? CM: Serious conclusion. I don't rent to trouble makers or those who show signs of becoming trouble makers. If someone start behaving poorly, I get rid of them. The problem is, so many people in Mpls are trouble makers and can't live in Ms Mann's fascist neighborhood. So the smart landlords get out. When someone who is as mean, mad, manipulative as Ms Mann gets you in their crosshairs: You had better get the hell out of Dodge. Oh BTW, if you run one bad landlord out of action, you havn't changed anything. Bad landlords are like crack dealers. Take one off the street, another one will show up. Bad landlords serve a need, they rent to crappy tenants who don't live in my buildings. The 800 lb. elephant here is that the city doesn't care about crime. All of what makes Ms Mann and Dyna angry is crime committed by citizens. No where in her post does she make any effort to address criminal action of her neighbors. She correctly points out that going after the landlord is going after some one who has something to lose. Try going after the felonious and misdemenor offender. Lock them up for 10-20-30days at a crack. Get them sentenced within 24 hours of their crime. BRING BACK municipal court. Ruin their life one month at a time instead of ruining your sleep night after night.
