This a really interesting discussion and
something that has impacted me a lot since I
moved to Minneapolis in 1972. Minneapolis
streets are WAY too narrow for the two-sided
parking which is the norm. Most of the time on
most of the streets, there's no way for two way
traffic. And in the winter, emergency vehicles
have real trouble reaching destinations.

I think there are lots of reasons there should be
either one-sided parking all year long or one-way
streets as the norm.

As for garages and the "low-income", if a
low-income person can't pay the cost of parking,
how can they afford running a car with insurance
costs where they are nowadays? And why do
low-cost houses need back lawns?

Most of all, WHY do thousands of people with
garages NOT use those garages for sheltering
their cars. In Cooper, virtually every house has
a garage. Yet, MOST of the cars seem to be ON
the street! What, are the garages supersized
yard sheds or something? I like those suburbs
that prohibit onstreet parking between November
and April. Something, anything, to get those
cars on the garage apron or IN the garage. For
one thing, those cars sitting out on the street
are a magnet for petty crime.
