Re: Socialists for Wellstone After reading the dsausa website, I drew the same conclusion that the original post did - that they were attempting to import people to vote. I suppose that would be better than standing outside a shelter with a stack of tens and sample ballot, but it would certainly be voter fraud and hopefully the democratic party would denounce it.
However, I've used the last minute registration and if I recall correctly, you have to bring a valid ID and some sort of proof of residency like a bill sent to your name at your address in the voting area you are in. Foolproof? No, but it would prevent a scheme like this. I think dsusa's website is written poorly and it was quite easy to confuse what they were calling to have done. I might be concerned that while their literature may not endorse Wellstone, the people they are recruiting to "educate young minnesotans" are very likely to do so. I don't know if this would be a violation of it being an tax deductible "issue-based" voter registration effort or not. Perhaps someone with more legal knowledge can let me know. Re: MCDA Riots - - - excerpt from [EMAIL PROTECTED] - - - This follows by a few days the stabbing murder of a Loring Park neighborhood resident at the edge of Loring Park. Generally murders are rare downtown, this hasn't been a good year. But why is MCDA allowing theatre concert goers to become agitated by late appearing acts which only excite riotous behavior? Is that the way we create a safe downtown? Agitate the customers? - - - end excerpt - - - Ok, I'm always open for analyzing what our government agencies do and I believe that every one of them is open for criticism (constructive or otherwise), however, unless there is quite a bit more to this story, blaming MCDA for this riot seems unreasonable. (http://www.startribune.com/stories/462/3368474.html) This was a touring rap show that was performing at that venue. Unless there is some way in which the MCDA interfered with the group's ability to start their show on time, I don't see how you can blame it on them. I mean, do you know any musicians? I'd bet 8 out of 10 of them have a real hard time showing up to anything on time. I count myself as one of the 8 (Daisy Cutter, coming to bars near you sometime soon.) Recently, there's been betting for levity on the state list. If you want to do the legwork to find out what happened, I'll bet you a pint at the downtown or northeast bar of your choice that the reason the show was late was: * Because of the band - or - * Because their engineers were having a hard time getting all the quirks out of the system - one of murphy's laws must be that the equipment always breaks before a show. Anyway, I'm sure there are plenty of valid suggestions for improvement or outright criticisms you could offer regarding the MCDA, but this one seems pretty unreasonable. Also, the death in Loring Park appears to have been a really senseless murder of a pretty neat guy. I know you didn't link it to the MCDA, but it seems to me that inserting it in this manner into the middle of a post accusing the MCDA of agitating people to commit violent acts will leave the reader with a link between the murder and MCDA. I'm not implying that this is what you meant to do, but the result is misleading. - Jason Goray, Sheridan, NE Out of posts for today. __________________________________________________ Do you Yahoo!?
