As many are throughout the state of Minnesota, I am deeply saddened and
dismayed about the tragic death today of Senator Paul Wellstone. At time
when politicians are likely to say only what the public wants to hear, he
was one of the few honest voices still in office. His death is a loss for
both Minnesota and the nation.
That said, I was angered to the brink of violence today when, shortly after
hearing what had happened in my car, I drove across the 4th St. SE bride
crossing 35W North. There, complete with a Norm Coleman placard, was some
smarmy bastard who somehow managed the audacity to taunt passing motorists
in the wake of these horrible events. Despite the death of a man and his
family, this heartless beast flaunted a smirk and let his political slant
stain the fact that eight people who lived close to home lost their lives
today.
It sickens me to think that this person was putting on his show just block
from my house. This type of exhibition is a reckless display, and one that I
only hope others will avoid engaging in. For one day at least, please put
your personal politics on hold and recognize the fact that a man who fought
for all Minnesotans perished. It will be a loss that will be felt for a long
time throughout our state.
