It seems that the MIA has compromised on the design as reported in the Star Tribune:
"Institute officials have agreed to lower the front part of the pavilion at the addition's south end by 10 feet, to 65 feet, to reduce casting a shadow on houses across the street. Other revisions include loading and unloading trucks during business hours, installing historic street lighting on both sides of Stevens Avenue, planting larger boulevard trees, and reducing the width of the loading dock's driveways." The availability of parking is a concern, and I know it is a problem particularly on Sundays and when popular exhibitions are on display. The expansion will eliminate about 20 parking spaces in the lot along Stevens Avenue. I suppose that about 10 spaces for street parking will be eliminated for the loading docks. Is there anyone on this list who can explain more the impact on parking? In the spirit of full disclosure, I should state that I am a volunteer tour guide at the MIA.
