Are there any ordinances stipulating whether or how downtown parking ramps must display their rates?
I ask this because, having a couple of extra minutes this morning, I drove around trying to locate a well-priced ramp to use when visiting some new downtown clients. Most of the ramps hid their prices by printing them in fairly small type on signs hidden well inside the ramp entrance. (One ramp on LaSalle between 7th and 8th comes to mind as being particularly egregious, with a small sign about twenty feet inside the mouth of the garage.) For many ramps, the only way to read the ramp prices was to pull into the ramp entrance, after which it was nearly impossible NOT to pull into the ramp. You would have to reverse into traffic, and possibly across a sidewalk with a blocked view of pedestrians. This seems like a safety hazard as well as being a scam. If there are some ordinances in this regard, I'd be interested in looking at them. Bob Alberti, President Sanction, Inc.
