Thank you Holle Brian for exposing the I-35 Access
project for what it really is - pork. But worse, this
pork will run a roughshod over a whole block of houses
to make room for a new flyover ramp at 28th Street.
I would love to invite every PAC member to the 2900
block of 2nd Ave. South, where immigrant first-time
home-owners live in some of the most stable and
peaceful properties in the area. That they be
renumerated for their homes, even generously, doesn't
begin to remedy the injustice of displacing them.
Would the owners of victorian mansions in Kenwood
vacate for a flyover ramp off I-394? No, because
MnDOT couldn't afford a legal battle with the wealthy
and well-connected. Why then, must they prey upon
hard-working immigrants on 2nd Avenue?
Placating people with renumeration for their homes can
never address the disruption to their lives and to the
neighborhood as a whole.
A flyover ramp on this land would bring the freeway
one block further into our neighborhood. Like
sleeping beast, the freeway again snorts and rumbles,
and prepares to eat up more homes. Where is the
public leadership in this city to halt this $155
million mistake?
