I wanted to respond to Ms. Mann's email regarding Minneapolis Youth Vote. Now in its
third year, Youth Vote has never announced the results prior to Election Day. In the
previous years, results were announced during the evening or the following day. 2002
results will be posted Tuesday evening on the What's Up? website at
<http://www.whatsup.org> www.whatsup.org

Minneapolis Youth Vote is sponsored by the Minneapolis Youth Coordinating Board (YCB),
What's Up?, YO! The Movement, the Minneapolis Mayor's Youth Council, and the
Minneapolis Public Schools Student Activities. It is funded by a grant from the Ben &
Jerry's Foundation.

A non-partisan effort, Youth Vote provides young people in grades 6-12 with
opportunities for civic engagement within their neighborhoods and communities, a forum
to discuss issues important to young people, encourages voting as a lifelong habit,
and engages policy makers to communicate with young people and listen to their
concerns.

49 Minneapolis Public Schools and alternative schools are participating in Youth Vote
2002. Students vote for candidates for U.S. Senate, Governor, School Board, and
Hennepin County Commissioner. Each school receives Voter's Guides, Ballots, "I Voted
Stickers", and posters.

Please note: the YCB is not a City Department but an intergovernmental organization
made up of 13 representatives from the following jurisdictions: Mayor of Minneapolis,
Minneapolis City Council (2), Hennepin County Commissioners (2), Minneapolis School
Board (2), Minneapolis Library Board, Hennepin County Attorney, Judge, Hennepin County
District Court, Juvenile Division and chairpersons of the Minneapolis delegation to
the Minnesota House of Representatives and to the Minnesota Senate. It is dedicated to
the healthy development of all Minneapolis children and youth through collaborative
action.

For more information about Youth Vote, email me offlist at
[EMAIL PROTECTED] or call the YCB at 612-673-2060 or What's Up? at
612-399-9999.

Thank you,
Cecilia Petschel, YCB communications coordinator

Subject: [Mpls] Youth Vote 2002

We have just learned that (unlike other election years) the results of the
youth vote sponsored by the Youth Coordinating Board (a City office) will not
be publicized until after the election. Could be that certain candidates
(ie., Greens, Doug Mann) did better than was hoped?

Linda Mann
