Jordan Kushner mentioned that he didn't know anything about Liz Pierce, who is running for Hennepin County judge.  I have known Liz for years and know her to be a very principled, thoughtful woman.  I meant to write something, but have been too busy, but here is an endorsement which I endorse -- diane wiley, powderhorn

Dear friends,

I am writing you to urge you to vote for Liz Pierce for Hennepin County
judge on Tuesday. If you do not live in Hennepin, I am sending you this
because I believe you care about the issue, and can forward this message to
people who live in the county.

To many people, the judge elections are very confusing. Very little
information is put out about the candidates, who in turn are limited in
what they can say and how they can campaign. Therefore, when faced with the
choices on the ballot, many of us just scratch our heads.

But the bench makes a tremendous difference in the lives of many people in
our county. Judges decide important questions like where children get to
live and who goes to prison. The character, background and intelligence of
judges is very important to all of us--especially in such issues in our
community as racial profiling and domestic abuse.

Liz is a person of high moral character and good judgement. She's smart and
well-versed in many areas of law, having run a general practice law office
for the past 18 years. Furthermore, having hired her as an attorney myself,
I know she is someone who makes good and principled decisions. Finally, she
treats all people with respect. I urge you to vote for her.

I have worked in the areas of low-income advocacy and domestic abuse for
many years, and I have seen some terrible judges--people who don't know the
law, who treat the people in front of them like dirt, who waffle, who are
capricious and prejudiced.  A bad judge can ruin someone's life; a good
judge can save it. I feel great that I can vote for someone who will raise
the standard of judging in my county.

If you know other people in Hennepin County who are likely to vote, please
pass this message on to them.

Please feel free to contact me at
[EMAIL PROTECTED] if you have any
questions.

Thanks a lot.
