At about 10am I was voter number 69... not good. No waiting, no problems. Precinct boundaries have changed some, but in 2000 we had about 700 voters in this precinct.

Looking about the neighborhood, the problem seems to be systematic disenfranchisement. Much of our adult population is either a new immigrant who is not yet a citizen or currently serving a felony sentence. Given the difficulty in obtaining citizenship and the long sentences being handed out today, we are looking at a population that will be disenfranchised for decades.

While out doing visibility the last couple of days for Mondale & Moe I have been impressed by the outpouring of support I've seen from new immigrants and people of color. Sadly, many of these folks are disenfranchised and will be unable to vote today. This mass scale disenfranchisement does not bode well for the future of our democracy...
