I have no personal opinion on the matter, but I do have this e-mail from a
trusted individual with whom I have worked. I'm forwarding it at her
request, although I can't imagine there are too many folks on here who
haven't already voted!

If you haven't, get going, and bring a book to read in line! I suspect
we're going to see record turnout today, and probably the highest turnout
rates in the nation.

Subject: Defeat Judge Swenson on Tuesday

Hi -- This is an unusual message from me, but a sincerely passionate one for
Tuesday's election.

It's very important that we DEFEAT incumbent judge James T. Swenson and
elect Robert D. Schwartz, who are running for Fourth District Court
(Hennepin County), Seat 58.

Swenson is an arrogant, angry, pompous judge in the Family Court system, who
relishes his personal power over carriage of justice. In court, he's earned
a reputation as disrespectful, verbally abusive, and downright nasty to
those appearing before him. Ask any family practice attorney who's been in
Swenson's court room. They'll tell you that they base their cases on not
rankling Judge Swenson's ire. His judgeship has been the epitome of personal
power, to the detriment of public service.

I've have personally been on the receiviing end of this guy's poison. (Won't
bore you with the details, but will happily provide substantial, concrete
examples if you contact me.) Very coincidentally, I learned of friends that
have also suffered from his unjust rulings even back many years when he was
a court referee.

Look at what the guy submitted to the StarTrib in last Friday's Voter's
Guide (p.15). Not one mention of fairness, compassion for families, nor the
welfare of those who come before him. (Have I been watching too much
"Judging Amy"?) Instead, Swenson provides a litany of his administrative
"accomplishments."

Don't just not vote for Swenson. You must also cast your ballot for Robert
D. Schwartz. We must get Swenson out of our court system and give families
already undergoing emmense stress fair and civil rulings. Let him play king
on his own dime

Joanne Simons

P.S. I need your help to spread the word. Please forward or tell this
message to as many of your friends, relatives, and associates that reside in
Hennepin County as you can. You and no one you know should have to appear in
this man's court. Thanks so much!

RE: Tim Bonham's list of judges for election.

I'd probably second all of Tim's choices and reasonings. Tim
acknowledged he didn't know much about the Incumbent Judge James
Swenson race against challenger Robert D. Schwartz.
        That makes two of us.
But my neighbor, who never ever puts up political lawn signs,
has a Judge Swenson sign in his yard. So I asked him about it and my
neighbor said Schwartz is challenging Judge Swenson because Swenson
was the judge in Schwartz' s divorce proceedings. Schwartz is a
wealthy attorney who didn't like the way Judge Swenson ruled on his
divorce. Hence, the challenge.
Says my neighbor: "I don't know anything about either of
these guys. But the idea of that a wealthy guy would run against a
judge based on a grudge match over a divorce is enough to make me
support the incumbent."
Hey, who says lawn signs don't matter? It made me have this
conversation which I'm now passing on.

        Lynnell Mickelsen
Ward 13, Linden Hills, who was planning on driving folks to
the polls today, but has a kid home sick with stomach flu and is thus
stuck writing e-mails on judicial races. Darn!
