I think it would be great if some of the sports stars, who are role models to the young people in the area, and who make those big-buck salaries, either as a group or as individuals made major donations to the Minneapolis Library Building Fund. Just think of the wonderful message that would send to young people. -- The Kevin Garnett Library -- The Torii Hunter Planetarium -- The Dante Culpepper Collection -- The Randy Moss Return Desk (well, maybe not) These are the people that a great majority of the young people look up to and want to emulate. Also, it is often sports that gets traded off against academics in our schools. Something like this would help balance the impression that many youth have that sports is all you need to "make it big" or to be judged a success in society. It would be a great endorsement of education as a necessary element in judging your success as a person. There are too few Alan Pages who go on to distinguished, learned careers to set an example of the importance of education in a person's life.
