[TB] I guess we now know why the population of Minneapolis increased
during the past decade.

speed limit for Hwy 55?

I have questioned MDdot and elected officials on this subject several
times during the push to build the highway through Minnehaha Park. ...
MNdot promised at numerous meetings I attended that the speed limit
would stay at 35miles an hour. I believe they should be held to that
promise.

Can we discuss pros and cons to a proposal /idea that an increase to
the speed limit on highway 55 from 35 mph to possibly 45 - 50 mph? ...

[TB] Seems that if we are going to spend the money to build a 4 or more
lane highway we ought to make it a highway. The natural speed for that
style of road is much more than 35 mph which on the few times I've
driven it was mostly ignored.

Saint Paul has what one wag calls a "practice freeway" where the speed
limit is 5 or 10 mph less than every other section of freeway in the
metro. It doesn't seuseful usefull purpose other than give the State
Patrol an area to practice writing speeding tickets.

Hwy 55 is the same. It is built to handle traffic at higher speeds,
its built, just as 35W, to move people in and out of town. Let it flow
at its natural pace.

Subject: Re: [Mpls] Big Zoning Changes and Affordable Housing

Thank you, Steve, for tracking the changes to the zoning ordinances. I
know that smaller apartments and smaller lot sizes do not seem very
attractive, but I've thought that reducing the size of housing units
would be one way to reduce construction costs and rents.

[TB] There isRestaurant's Resturant at 26th and Hennepin that is
apparently closing. The neighborhoods (in East Isles) want a mixed use
development. Apparently the lot is large enough and zoning allows a 3
story building with commercial use on the ground level and residential
above.

What do they get? Word is a fast food joint.
