All I can say is that it's about bloody time that we got back to reality on this!
- Hwy 55 was designed for a 45-50 m/h speed limit (I know people from the neighborhood who worked on the design committees [for years!]). And that's what MnDOT has told Minneapolis.
- Most traffic on Hwy 55 already travels at this speed (or even faster). Experienced drivers recognize the subconscious clues that indicate the appropriate speed for a road, and they drive at about that speed (most of them).
- It's far more dangerous for a road to have vehicles moving at widely different rates of speed -- like current Hwy 55 with some drivers going at the posted 35 m/h, most drivers moving at the designed 45-50 m/h, and a few speedsters doing 60-70 m/h.

I say the sooner the city gets realistic and posts this road for it's designed speed, the better.

Can we discuss pros and cons to a proposal /idea that an increase to the
speed limit on highway 55 from 35 mph to possibly 45 - 50 mph?
