I have grown increasingly disheartened by the negative characterization of Republicans and/or conservatives on this list. I personally spent 30 years in the DFL and left because of the increasing hypocrisy (see former post-Garage Politics). I have most recently defined myself as an independent/centrist but I may soon join the Republicans. (My kudos to David Brauer who is trying valiantly to keep this list civil and focused.)
As a single parent, working two jobs to make ends meet, I may actually have to move as I cannot afford to live here much longer. I just got my proposed tax bill today and my property taxes are going up 19.2% next year (in my little 96 year old house). What happened to 8%? By living in Minneapolis, I also pay higher insurance premiums, higher water/sewer rates, higher repair bills, higher sales tax, ad nauseum. All brought to me courtesy of the Minneapolis DFL. (When they have been in power as long as they have--it takes real chutzpah to blame it on the other party.) Catherine Leighton Live in Longfellow/Work North East PS - DFL loyalists shouldn't underestimate how average citizens view their arrogant, pedantic rhetoric, and gross over-generalizations. The DFL has abandoned critical thinking for slogans and insults. I can only hope that they will eventually realize that these attitudes are far more likely to antagonize than inspire. _______________________________________ Minneapolis Issues Forum - A City-focused Civic Discussion - Mn E-Democracy Post messages to: mailto:mpls@;mnforum.org Subscribe, Unsubscribe, Digest, and more: http://e-democracy.org/mpls
