The latest edition of Pulse has an article on the
Access/Excess Project. Here's the link:

>From the article:
Councilmember Dean Zimmermann had to leave the meeting
early, but his aide read a statement by him. He
doesnt think this is a good project. He supports his
colleague, Robert Lilligren, the 8th Ward
Councilmember who lives directly under the path of the
fly-over lane, and who has consistently opposed the
project. He believes the $153 million could be better
invested in building a transit system for this city
and region. (snip) We have major gridlock downtown,
and what sense does it make to continue to build
freeways to dump more cars into downtown? Why not
focus on building a sustainable system rather than
continuing to put lipstick on this pig?

David Piehl comments:

I agree with Dean Zimmermann on this - the money would
make so much more sense being spent as part of a
sustainable transit system! Instead, project
organizers seem bent on putting more lipstick on the
pig. Some elements of the proposal make sense, but
they lose their relevency due to all the extra favors
that have been piled into this proposal.
