Mayor R.T. Rybak this afternoon announced the launch of MOSAIC: Celebrating the Arts and Cultures of Minneapolis, a multicultural arts celebration scheduled to run from June 1, 2003 through end of the Minneapolis Aquatennial Celebration in July 2003.
The project's steering committee is being led by co-chairs, Robyne Robinson and Karl Reichert. The committee has representatives from the Minneapolis Arts Commission, Downtown Council, Target, GMCVA, Intermedia Arts, Walker, MIA, the Northside Arts Collective, and many other organizations ranging in diversity from the American Swedish Institute to Theatre Mu. In addition, Fallon Minneapolis is providing some pro-bono services and helped develop the project name. The committee is in the process of raising funds for MOSAIC, hiring a coordinator to help pull everything together, developing one or two "signature" events, and recruiting organizations to participate in the eight-week celebration. The committee will seek formal endorsement of the City Council over the next month. If you know of organizations that you think should be involved or ideas for MOSAIC, please contact Matthew James in the Planning Department, Cultural Affairs Division (612) 673-5449 or send an e-mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED] The project website can be found at www.minneapolismosaic.com.
