Many people have written in the past few days about Dave Ray. They
extolled his virtues as a musician, an inspiration to famous musicians,
an insurance salesman, a record producer, a father and husband. It's all true.

But, I have not read anything about Dave's participation in neighborhood
based citizen participation activities.

Dave was committed to Seward. When I first moved from the West Bank to
Seward in 1989, Dave was a model for me. He attended annual meetings of
Seward Redesign and the Seward Neighborhood Group (SNG) He was on the
Board of SNG when I started working at Seward Redesign. In 1993 before
SNG's Annual meeting I overheard the SNG's Executive Director make
literally dozens of phone calls exhorting residents to come to the
meeting and vote against Dave for re-election. This lobbying was
successful but Dave continued to be involved. His presence was felt in
our NRP planning. MJ, Dave's wife was chair of our NRP Steering
Committee and Dave knew about important dates and meetings. Despite the
obvious animosity toward Dave by the staff of SNG Dave still found a way
to have his voice heard.

I'll miss you Dave!

I love you MJ, I'm sorry for your loss.
