At Bryn Mawr elementary where my son is in full day kindergarten and loving it, EVERY family (54 kids) with incoming kindergarteners listed the full day program as their first choice.
This includes kids from a wide range of economic situations, some who went to full day preschool, some who had no preschool, and some who don't speak english at home. In half day kindergarten there is less than 3 hours/day of classroom time. It's no wonder full day K has a role in bridging achievement gaps.
