DP: Here the author is engaging in knee-jerk PC inflamed polemics by
bringing in the NIMBY accusation. Of course it's going to be the locals
that yell foul when someone lights off a stink bomb. The 7 Corners issue
is a question of reasonable use of taxpayer dollars, whether these guys
can be helped in this environment, and how will the neighborhood be
affected. Put it all together and this proposal stinks.

I jumped into this discussion when I saw the Strib article on Peace
House and read about the folks there and their trouble with chemical
dependency and chronic homelessness. The proposal for 7 Corners is for
an overnight shelter only. This "service" will enable the chemically
dependent. What is the provider group doing to turn lives around? There
is not a good record of salvations. If this money is simply buying 25
spots on the floor out of the cold we need a better plan. As I've said
before we could shelter 100 men for nearly the same operational costs.

That JC "walks by it almost every day" and feels that he has "spent time
with the folks" tells me he's not connected with the issues.
