GREAT WORK BARBARA NELSON!!! I noticed that Weir fellow wrote on the subject, but not a solitary poem. I appreciate that he thinks I do not know bad poetry, and by implication ONLY know "Good Poetry". I can assure him I can tell the deference between a dead carp and bad poetry; though they both stink, and are often encountered on the banks of the Mississippi. I am well qualified! I have a great deal of experience with bad poetry; having spent years studying my own!
Some limericks would also be fun. What happened to RT? Next in line for stench award The Streak: Roses are Red Violets are Blue No drug dealer on Franklin? Man, he must have flew On to more serious subjects: 1) Great Freeway Parking Lot: We need to fix that Great parking lot sometimes referred to as a freeway. Thousands of cars sit and pump tons of pollutants into the air several hours each day. If the budget will not allow the full package then I suggest the "Neighborhoods" convene a meeting of only elected representatives to stream line the process and put a compromise, or bare bones deal on the table. This can be the alternative plan. Should take about four hours, not four years. Then give it to the engineers and say this is what we want, go do it. 2) Dragon Center Casino at Sears: When we, (a group of local Asian business people and developers), were bringing a group of Mainland Chinese business people to the table to look at the Sears Building, one of the first thing they desired was a one floor casino. Such a casino was desired to enhance the retail and entertainment draw of the "Center". Those Chinese with their own millions of dollars to invest were pretty much snubbed after Sharon left office. One public official said it was a "bad idea, cause it would have a bunch of immigrants with small cut up shops". I think the City would rather sell (give) the building to a big box developer who will take the development fees and leave the City holding a fifty million dollar goose than to a corporation of 150 smaller entities. Where the failure of one doesn't cause a ripple. Minneapolis just doesn't want the Chinese millions in development, before you know it we would be like Vancouver or Toronto where the Chinese built Dragon Cities. We in Minneapolis apparently do not want any developer who also want to invest their own money. MCDA probably does not know how to deal with anyone who would want to use their money instead of "OUR" money. Those folks tired of attempting to do business in Minneapolis and have since moved on to a different US City, but the Casino is a good idea. It could finance NRP in full, build all the affordable housing we need, and still have left-overs to finance the blunders that the City Council makes. In addition it would revitalize an area of the "Empowerment Zone" with a huge number of well paying jobs, and a huge amount of collateral development. People are going to gamble anyway, they already do. Every person who wants to gamble IS gambling! Set aside a couple of floors for the Casino and use two others for retail and restaurants and the City of Minneapolis could tell the State Legislature to take the proverbial 'Jump' at the rolling donut. Natives have enjoyed the exclusive monopoly and the billions of dollars long enough, it is time we on the "Asphalt Reservation" get some relief also. To make the situation more fair I suggest that ten percent of all profits be set aside for "Urban Indians" without an affiliation to a band with a casino. Most folks believe all Native people are receiving funds from "Indian Casinos", but it is just not true. Only a few enjoy most of the profits from the present casinos, and the vast majority only get to envy them. A Minneapolis casino would rectify this inequity. A Minneapolis Casino would not put the others out of business, it would just offer some competition that would benefit the Entire community. Band members from the "Mystic" Reservation would possibly only get $100,000 per year per person instead of the rumored $500,000 that has been reported in the news. 3) Name For Super City: Suggested City Name: Rio Vegas. I still think METROPOLIS is better. The Copyright on that comic book must have run out, and even if it had not that name could be used. Since this is a word that is a synthesis of Metropolitan and Minneapolis, I do not think you can copyright it. Metro and Minneapolis existed before the comic strip.
