In the 2001 Minneapolis elections a blast of fresh air blew into city hall, with the exception of the 3rd ward. The 3rd's incumbent council member was already smelling of corruption but none the less won an easy re-election. As this year passed the stench of corruption from the 3rd Ward Councilman became too much to bear. Finally, bowing to pressure from his colleagues, he left our city hall. Finally we had a chance to bring a bit of fresh air to the 3rd ward council members office!

Some of the smell stuck to the DFL. Or at least the perception that the DFL was involved in the malodorous corruption this former Council Member created. One would think the DFL would want to produce the sweetest smelling endorsement ever. But Noooo...

The smell first arose with the choice of a meeting time that seemed guaranteed to reduce participation of working class delegates. The stench rose with Stonewall DFL and Labor endorsement screenings that didn't bother to invite all the DFL candidates or even all their members in the 3rd Ward. The convention may be non smoking, but the smell of machine politics' smoke filled rooms is pervasive.

Today is a chance for the DFL to blow away the stench in the 3rd ward. Today is a the day for the 3rd Ward DFL to drive out the stench of political dynasties, endorsements "delivered" by political insiders, and disenfranchisement. Delegates, let's vote no endorsement and let the 3rd wards voters send a blast of fresh air to city hall.

R.T., have any of those air fresheners left?
