Sorry Tim, but you are wrong. There was starting to be an exodus by Sharon supporters and phone calls had delegates who supported RT just coming in and more returning, who had left early . Many Sharon supporters had committed to stay until that time and were just getting ready to leave. We knew it was about to happen, and so did Rick Stafford. That's why he pulled off the coup, to save Sharon from being embarrassed and forced to drop out completely or break her promise to abide by the endorsement. Rick will even smile and admit it if asked. I was on the other side begging to not let him get away with it, but you have to give it to that Stafford guy. When the chips were down Stafford had the steel to bluff, and get away with it. Rick had more brass than a plumbing supply store that night.
To say there was little movement is not correct. RT started out behind and gained every vote while Sharon stayed the same. Lisa's people were trying to block, but they were due to take a walk. Sharon's marginal supporters also saw the writing on the wall and were due to sneak out. Which would have changed the percentages. RT's supporters could smell the blood and were staying to celebrate the end of the hunt. RT did not have to block anything. The DFL machine could not stop the momentum of the neighborhood, and populous grassroots machine, which had been cranked up and started running for RT before that night. Olin Moore's endorsement tonight reminded of the same thing. That grassroots machine was just running a little smother tonight. Congratulations Olin, you just keep riding and pumping the gas to that grassroots democratic machine. It will get you there! Also stop looking so serious and worried. Smile and have faith, you are on your way. The highest hurdle you cleared easily tonight.
