GREEN PARTY ENDORSES SHANE PRICE FOR SPECIAL CITY COUNCIL ELECTION MINNEAPOLIS, December 10 -- Sunday evening, by a vote of 46 to 1, the Minneapolis/5th District Green Party endorsed Shane Price as their candidate in the February 3rd special election to replace 3rd Ward City Councilmember Joe Biernat, who resigned last month after being convicted of five felonies. Before a large group of members, supporters, and observers, Brother Shane -- as he often referred -- spoke about what can happen when citizens and leaders commit to making positive change in their communities. Price also addressed numerous questions from the group ranging from sustainable economics and police relations to labor and transportation. The membership decided to extend the Q&A period twice to allow for more time; many of his answers were met with applause. Before the vote, North Minneapolis resident and former Green Party legislative candidate Eric Oines told the group, "Brother Shane is out every day trying to make the ward a better place. He's at the community meetings, the birthday parties, the weddings and the funerals. He's out in the streets. Where our current leadership is in the background quietly observing, Shane is actively talking to the folks, engaging them, moving the issues." Oines continued, "I'm not the only one who believes that he already is the real councilmember in the 3rd ward. It's time we made it official." If elected, Price would become the City Council's second African-American member, joining Natalie Johnson Lee of the 5th Ward. Johnson Lee and Dean Zimmermann of Ward 6 are also Green Party-endorsed. _______________________________________ Minneapolis Issues Forum - A City-focused Civic Discussion - Mn E-Democracy Post messages to: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Subscribe, Unsubscribe, Digest, and more: http://e-democracy.org/mpls
