I have waited to post regarding the statements made by Mr. Miller about me in his post. But, now that Wizard has chimed in, I think it's time I posted.
Mr. Miller does not know me. I don't believe we have ever met. That being said, his comments about me were made with a broad sweeping brush. I do know the difference between people waiting for a bus on Franklin Ave. and those who are dealing drugs. Unfortunately, I have been forced to become very educated on this subject because of my experiences in Whittier. I also can state quite confidently that I am not looking for all the black people to move out of my neighborhood. If that were the case, I would have to move also. My son is black. I know quite a few black people, Mexican people, Asian people, Native American people and Somolian people living on my block, along Franklin, Bloomington or any other drug torn block that don't want the crack heads hanging around the streets either. It's not a matter of color, it's a matter of behavior. And, I have learned the behavior of people who are high on crack, dealing drugs and prostituting. Maybe I don't notice immediately, but, it doesn't take long to figure it out once the behavior begins. Mr. Miller, you have nothing to worry about with me. I will not call the cops on you when you are waiting for a bus, and I don't want you to move away from Franklin or wherever you live. Likewise, I would hope you might respect my right to work hard so that my child can live in a neighborhood that is safe and free from the violence associated with drugs, gangs, and prostitution.
