Subject: [Mpls] Third Ward endorsement.....

JLS--There has been a good deal of interest in the topic of the Third Ward
council race. Personally, I think Ms. Freeman in her posts revealed a lot
of character and class for a candidate for elective office. I can imagine
that organizing for the convention was not an easy task. At times the
acoustics in the Bottineau Park Neighborhood Center meeting hall were not
ideal for those in attendance to hear the message of the various candidates.
As a recent unsuccessful candidate for re-election to the NRP Policy Board,
I can empathize with Ms. Freeman and others who did not receive the
convention endorsement

(VLF--" Well folks, the convention is over, and Boy, am I glad. The endorsed
candidate is Olin Moore... Way to Go....I lost, but I hope the true meanings
and issues that I wanted to convey were let in the hearts of many. I think
Olin Moore is a good candidate and will serve both North and Northeast
sections well. I fully and whole heartedly support Olin for the job..

JLS--I worked at the credentials table and served as a teller at the 3rd
ward convention last evening. I was very impressed by the 3rd ward
delegates turnout (and interest from numerous observers) as already
commented on by delegate Dyna Sluyter (DS "The turnout was amazing, with
something like 74 of the possible 92 delegate seats full. This is a trend we
have seen since the DFL's "defeat" in the general election- huge turnouts
even at off year DFL events")

A question has been posed about the Green Party endorsement process--I look
forward to further clarifications from the other parties on the nature of
their endorsement processes. I do hope that those DFL candidates who
participated in the DFL 3rd ward convention process and who specifically and
publicly professed that they would honor the convention endorsement abide by
their statements. Will 3rd Ward voters be calling for any organizations to
step up in this short election time frame to sponsor candidates debates or
other fora to provide an opportunity for 3rd Ward voters to question
candidates on the important issues?
