This song is dedicated to the 16 families of the 2900
block of 2nd avenue whose houses are slated to be
demolished for a flyover ramp as a part of the 35W
access project. I know nearly all of them and I can
tell you that none of them want to move.

This song is not copyrighted. I give my permission
for anyone to reproduce it and/or sing it in any key
they wish. Just spread the message that, as Dr. King
said, "injustice anywhere is a threat to justice
everywhere."

The Flyover Ramp Blues
Sung to the tune of "Heartbreak Hotel"

Well, since that PAC was formed,
And stacked for the project to sell,
People been tellin' my neighbors
To find a new place to dwell.

The cars will be rollin right over
And down to twenty-eighth street
Right here where my house stands
Will be a mess of concrete.

We'll soon be homeless, baby
We'll soon be homeless, baby
We'll soon be homeless, so they can fly (over, that
is).

Smith Parker is so savvy,
They show you a map so green
Until you realize your block
Is nowhere to be seen.

We'll soon be homeless, baby...

(guitar solo)

Bridge (he, he):
A corporate handout of the very worst kind,
Will make me lose my house...and maybe my mind!

I'll soon be homeless, baby...(2X and fade)

Jeff Carlson, Whittier

P.S. To hear the live version (plus new verses) come
to STRIDE's next community forum at the Hosmer
Library, January 16th at 7:00. We promise, no
thousand dollar models of freeway expansions disguised
as parks.
