Once, Minnesota's gang strike force was highly touted, but recently,
Minneapolis representation has dwindled from eight officers to two in 2002,
this morning's Star Tribune reports. After some high-profile murders, Chief
Robert Olson plans to up the city contingent to 6-12.

Did Olson make a mistake by cutting the deployments? What's the reason for
the yo-yo assignments? Are budget problems one factor? And is the gang
strike force really effective?

Inquiring minds are curious.
