First, a sincere thanks for the Shane Price campaign (or at least a
supporter) providing a platform. By the way, I appreciate Margo Ashmore
doing it first-hand. Olin Moore out there?

I do have some questions about the Price platform - genuine, sincere, not
intended to be sarcastic.

[Angela Dawson, on behalf of Price]
Shane will not support a stadium unless it comes with a plan to employ local
people with sustainable, living wage jobs.

[Me]
Are you really saying that is sufficient? Jobs for a stadium deal? I worry
that such a deal could be the modern equivalent of $24 in beads for
Manhattan...that the jobs will be few but the public subsidy could be nine
figures. How can we be sure this deal is not a fig leaf?

[Price campaign]
The average dollar in Edina is recycled at least five times before it leaves
that community. In North Minneapolis, our dollar is rarely recycled once.

[Me]
While I don't doubt more $$ stay in Edina, what is the source of the above
statistical comparison?

[Price campaign]
Finding and owning a place to live is often the first step to gaining a
financial foothold for those seeking an American Dream. Predatory lending is
among the highest in the Hawthorne and Jordan neighborhoods. Shane Price
will introduce and support local legislation that holds corporations and
individuals accountable for robbing our neighborhoods of hard earned equity
and for humiliating homeowners that are seeking their dream.

[Me]
An attractive idea - I'd like to know more about how it would actually work.
For example, to replace predatory lending with a "non-predatory" version,
some lender is going to have to accept a lower return. Do we have evidence
that the risk is low enough to pay back a lower return? If not, you'll just
wind up with no lending...which might be worse for the people of Hawthorne
and Jordan. Again, I'd just like a practical roadmap.

[Price campaign]
Shane Price will work with activists and experts to implement positive,
renewable energy solutions that will not violate our responsibility to
future generations.

[Me]
I'm with you, environmentally. But I do want to get some sense of where the
bucks will come from for renewables in the short run, and how city/taxpayer
finances can accommodate it.

Again, my thanks and respect to the Price campaign for posting here. I do
believe it is incumbent on list members to follow proposals with respectful
questions. I have no candidate in the hunt in the 3rd Ward, and just wish to
learn more about how the city's future leaders might bring off their
platforms.
