Though not the same as the highway 55 fiasco, the stadium has some similarities....people will debate how much influence the legislature has on Mpls but I think it's a goodly amount. The state wanted it's road and Mpls. could do little about it. Not that Mpls. has issues with the willful destruction of good houses, oak savannahs, sacred ground, or a healthy spring, camp coldwater, the birthplace of Minnesota. Though we did not save seven homes that could have been moved, though we did not save an oak savannah, the preserve camp coldwater coalition did have a say as to how the road would effect the spring. And hopefully the spring's health will continue. I have serious doubts as to whether the spring would still flow if the coalition would have been totally shut out. So what's the lesson? Deal the hand your dealt. I convey Mr. Shoemaker's view that if this is coming, how can we dovetail living wage jobs, job training, and a stadium. As a green party member, I'm ambiguous about a stadium, I do not have the knee jerk reaction that I'm supposed to have as a green. I'm offended that I should think a certain way about an issue, just because I belong to a political party. It is not inherently good or bad. I do not think it poses the kind of threat some on this list believe. I think the mayor and a number of council members know what we can and can not do financially, unlike the last administration. Again, if forces beyond our collective control hand us this headache / opportunity, let's find common ground and leverage to advance Mpls interests, and protect us financially. My personal opinion would be to put our energies into a planetarium. I would use this more than a stadium. I come across strident many times because my interests have been run over more times than I can remember. If my opposition would come half way, so will I. It call compromise, and it's the basis of politics. Meanwhile on the streets, it's good to see signs for Valdis, Trish, and even two for Olin. I received a lit piece disguised as a christmas card from Don Samuels, I hope he remembers us next year.......
Robert Yorga THE "OTHER" AUTHENTIC VOICE FOR THE COMMUNITY....... St. Anthony West "Nothing in the realm of thought or ideologies is absolute. Lean on one for long, and it collapses. Because of this, there is nothing more futile and frustrating than relying on the mind. To arrive at the unshakable, you must befriend the tao. To do this, quiet your thinking. Stop analyzing, dividing, making distinctions between one thing and another. Simply see that you are at the center of the universe, and accept all things and beings as parts of your body. When you perceive that an act done to another is done to yourself, you have understood the great truth." -hu hau ching _______________________________________ Minneapolis Issues Forum - A City-focused Civic Discussion - Mn E-Democracy Post messages to: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Subscribe, Unsubscribe, Digest, and more: http://e-democracy.org/mpls
