Tim Connelly writes: It would be great if we could install cameras that have a radar gun attached as further deterrence.
My life is more valuable to me than any person's 'right' to be free of surveillance as they commit crimes. And think of the revenue stream. (JC) I agree with Tim on this one. Why would anyone be afraid of radars on red lights? If you don't run red lights, you have no need to worry. If you do run red lights, you are endangering everyone, including yourself, and should be held accountable. I have nearly been mowed down at least three times - today. It is ludicrous how many drivers in Minneapolis ignore the red. Secondly, Gary Hoover's original points are being lost in this debate. Only one person has addressed directly the situation at 38th and Nicollet and that is the person who quoted the Strib's obituary. Who will meet Gary's challenge to seek justice in this death? For the sake of those of us that walk as daily transportation, everything possible must be done to prevent another death like that of Janet Jones from happening. I hardly believe a cursory mention in the Strib, no investigation or charges and no press conference can be sufficient. One pedestrian death is too many. Cameras on traffic lights, bump outs, road narrowings and depaving of roads must be considered in order to prevent this from happening again.
