If I may quote Hoosiers, Gene Hackman's character said, "there's a tradition in tournement play not to climb the step ahead before you climb the one you're on." I think it is not only not shortsighted to have not thought about 2005, but irresponsible to do so.
I can't speak for anyone else that you were addressing, but for me, when I looked at the candidates, Don was one that I thought most fit the bill for the needs of the 3rd Ward as well as those of the council. As someone from a neighboring ward (4th) and who cares about the city, I see it as my responsibility to be aware and voice my support where necessary. I think to ask this question runs the risk of trying to pit community leaders against each other. I can't see any reason why this would influence a vote in any positive manner. It's more important to focus on the election next week, rather than 2 years down the line in my opinion.
