To Craig Miller's list of things banned, banished or sold differently in the city, I'll add baby formula in its more economical, powder form. At least as recently as a year ago, it could be a huge hassle to buy it at big stores in the city, where it was stocked off limits in locked cases at special counters that weren't always staffed, while at the stores' suburban counterparts you could grab it off open shelves. I gather there is a drug market reason for city stores making baby formula hard to buy, but it was one of those everyday annoyances that makes harried parents with cars shop in the suburbs against their wishes.
