In a period of new leadership in Minnesota,
no one is taking on a more difficult or
more important job than Al Gallmon, who
last week became president of the Minneapolis
branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People.

On the surface, Gallmon's job merely
is overwhelming. He must soothe the
self-destructive turmoil within the
NAACP while he leads the branch back
to the front lines of social justice causes.
