Writing about writers: here's a sample of Mr. Samuel's prose where he is writing about the Cub Foods scenario on Third Ave., quoted by Eva Young on the Yahoo discussion list.
>I support the maintenance of the architectural and pedestrian feel of >the neighborhood. This area has developed a well-earned reputation for >being small business oriented, neighborhood scale, personable and >esthetically intimate. As the community develops in this direction, it >will become a magnet for people seeking to get away. > >Central will be a romantic experience consistent with the artsy, >international getaway that makes an evening special. Ultimately, this >mystique could become a magnet for people and dollars and build >community pride and identity. When I lived on Nicollet Island, the trip up Central was a routine part of our life and I still like going down this memory lane. Central is a happening place with plenty of room for infill as the adjacent neighborhoods continue to evolve. Mr. Samuels writes succinctly, thoughtfully, and right on the mark in wanting to continue Central's welcoming aura. I'll bet he has a well-crafted view about commercial nodes on the Northside - lessons learned along Central will apply there also - and his remarks fit very well with the city's declared intention to reinforce local businesses with attractive residential construction and readily marketed messages for mobile consumers with disposable dollars in their pockets. It's a mark in Don Samuel's favor that he puts language where we list members can get at it: I appreciate online dialogue with R. T., city council members and city department spokespeople. These exchanges have meaning in the real world we writers live in and they certainly shorten our lines of communication. Don is rightly signaling his willingness and ability to swim with the rest of us fishes. Fred Markus, Horn Terrace, Ward Ten, in the Lyndale Neighborhood. --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free.
