An interesting story---I walked out of my house yesterday, up the street from Rudolph's Barbeque, and heard the squawking of several crow sitting in a tree over my parking lot. I look around, and see that a hawk has a smaller black bird pinned to the ground. It was tawny grey, small beak, a distinctive fan-shaped tail with gray and whitish stripes. It was probably 10-12" tall. It was undisturbed by the crows, and not tearing at the bird. I walked slowly around it at a distance of 15-20 feet, and finally it flew off, and the black bird, likely a starling scurried to a hiding place 4 feet away. The area pigeons and sparrows were all flying around as well. The whole thing was quite striking.

This Peragrine nearly beheaded my daughter and me (probably a little
exaggeration here) as we were walking to our car from Calhoun Square on
Saturday. It flew just a few feet over our heads, something in its
talons (probably a pigeon) being pursued by about 6 crows.
