Don, good to finally hear from you after over a month
of
campaigning.

Tamir:
Don actually did get back to me as did Jonathan
Palmer, who's opinions I value very much. On this,
I'm sort of predisposed to support Don Samuels, but I
still feel that there's a lot to answer for. It is
very important to me that the issue of abuse of power
by the Minneapolis Police take front and center stage
at this time.

(Dyna) Hectic times are the norm for a council member-
are you sure
you're ready for this job?

TN:
Come on Dyna! No one goes in to the City Council ready
for the job. That's why they have orientations, aides
and people who already know things like the City Hall
computer system and how to write an ordinance.

Dyna: Again, I wish you'd been more specific
previously instead of
waiting so late in the campaign.

TN: I wish both of these candidates were more
specific, Olin just talks about being a Labor Democrat
and building consensus. You can't build concesus with
a bunch of macho jerks who think they have the right
to kill people. At least Don gets that part of it.

Don: I believe there is evidence of racial prejudice
and abuse of authority by
>elements within the Minneapolis police.

Dyna: You make it sound like a conspiracy- where is
this "evidence"
you speak of?

Tamir:

Dyna, what city are you living in? Where were you
when Abuka Sanders was killed, or Christpher Burns or
Abdullah Simmons. Were you at city hall when someone
connected with the police department said that
"minorities should only look at themselves" during a
public safety meeting? This is the whole point of the
well publicized mediation process that Olson is trying
so hard to screw up.

Don:
I believe this is unacceptable and
>should be addressed at every level and that citizens
complaints should be
>handled in an open and timely manner with results of
investigations made
>available to the public.

Dyna:
If what you allege is true it is indeed unacceptable.
But do
you realize that under state data privacy laws the
personnel data of
innocent public employees is largely confidential, and
should remain
so?

Tamir: Complaints agaist police officers are public
records, open for anyone to see.

Dyna:
Don, where are these "young ignorant white cops" of
whom you
speak? How many are there? I've met plenty of
intelligent and aware
cops of all ages, where these just the rare exception?

Tamir:
As a matter of fact these are the rare exceptions! I
just got stopped last night becuase my headlight was
out once again, as usual by a rude stupid souding cop.
These are the majority of officers that work at the
street level. Sure, the sops who show up to your
block club meetings will sound intelligent and seem
concered, but the majority of the ones who actually do
the work the streets are abusive. As long as Robert
Olson remains police chief and as long as we have
policies like CODEFOR, this will continue.

Dyna:
Again, I am saddened that you seem only to perceive
the world
as black versus white. We citizens of Minneapolis come
in many
colors, and we can think in all the colors of the
rainbow. Perhaps
that explains why Stonewall DFL has endorsed your
opponent, Olin
Moore.

Tamir:
Race matters. The way the our culture percieves
African Americans is a legitimate political issue and
though I am not African American, it's not something I
would gloss over with fuzzy feel good rhetoric.
Though I don't entirely agree with Don's solutions, in
fact some aspects are downright disturbing to me, it's
clear he's given the issue more thought than his
opponent. This is something I greatly appreciate. I
hope that once he is elected his door will be open to
different solutions, and having heard from them, I
believe it will.

furthering the debate,

(and God bless you for that)
